Pre Permanent Makeup Procedure Instructions
Please take note:
All pmu procedures are a multi-session process. You are required to come back for at least one touch-up visit before it can be determined that your work is complete. Touch-up visits are scheduled at 4-8 week intervals or longer (12 weeks for lips)
The initial colour intensity of your procedure will be significantly sharper, brighter, or darker than what is expected for the final outcome. It will take time for this transition based upon how quickly the outer layer of your skin exfoliates. Healed results cannot be 100 percent guaranteed .While these tattooed pigments may initially simulate the exact colour and tone desired, they will not always remain a perfect match. Tattooed colours are constant, while your own skin colour will vary depending on exposure to cold, heat, sun, and circulatory changes.
Before your procedure:
o Allow 2 hours for your makeup procedure. Consult your doctor and the permanent makeup technician before taking any medications prior to coming to your appointment.
o Eat well before the procedure.
o Please stay well hydrated before and after appointment you will heal better
o If eyeliner procedure, have someone drive you home and not operate a vehicle yourself for 8 hrs.
o Any tweezing or waxing should be done at least 48 hours prior to the procedure; electrolysis no less than 5 days before. Do not resume ANY method of hair removal for at least two weeks. Do not shave your eyebrows before your appointment
o Please do not wear contact lenses to your eyeliner appointment or 4 hours after the procedure, bring along your glasses if they are prescription.
o NO eyelash growth serum- discontinue 2 weeks prior to your eyeliner procedure. Please remove all extensions 48 hours prior to your appointment.
o Vitamins: you can take extra vitamins and calcium prior to your appointment to help healing and reduce swelling. Take Arnica beforehand, but, DO NOT take vitamin B.
o It is best to avoid these procedures prior to important life events or social plans as procedures can take longer to complete than can be predicted.
o Please do not wear makeup to your appointment but you can bring along your favourite brow colour or pencil
o Eyebrow tinting or eyelash curling should be avoided 48 hours before the procedure and 2 weeks after.
o For lip pmu if you have ever had a cold sore or fever blister you will want to obtain a prescription for an anti-viral medication. Call your dentist or your doctor to request pills for 30 days- enough for 2 procedures. Please begin the prescription 3 to 5 days before the procedure or 1600 MG in the first 24 hours. Continue as the prescription advisers for 5 to 7 days of healing. This will prevent a break out and blistering. Some lips need additional 2 to 3 touch-ups if you want to keep the colour brighter or darker.
o Be aware that if you were getting lip liner and lipstick done that it often fades and softens to a tint/stain, this applies to all procedures.
o Migration of pigment is not common but possible. I avoid the corners of the eyes and mouth to help prevent that.
o Treatment may result in the following: Sensitivity or discomfort, swelling, bruising, allergic reaction, redness, irritation, eye injury or a corneal abrasion, bleeding, redness or soreness due to the invasion of area.
o Fading is normal and differs from person to person.
o Open tissue can cause infection so please avoid touching.
o Redness and swelling is normal and can last for about 24 to 48 hours. Drink lots of water this will help with swelling and healing. Clean/blot (don’t pick or rub) area with a lightly damp cloth or Q-tip 2 to 3 hours times daily for the first 3-5 days (apply ointment after cleaning) keeping the area moist at all times until flaking occurs. I like 5 days.
o Avoid water exposure, sun exposure, sauna, direct sun, exfoliates, active ingredients such as glycolic acid and retinol, make up and touching with fingertips for 5 to 7 days until area flakes. Do not pick for scratch the area or you pull the colour out.
o Finally be aware that your menstrual cycle may cause skin sensitivity is it is best to book your appointment after ovulation and before the week prior to your cycle.
o A skin test if offered upon request

Prior to your appointment you want to avoid the following:

-Soda/energy drinks (due to blood thinning)
-Fish oil
-Aspirin or ibuprofen and codeine
-Exercise and massage
-Exfoliation and anti-aging or acne treatments on area.
-laser hair removal
-Botox and fillers
-skin microneedling and chemical peels
If you are on medication for a heart condition, epinephrine, which is in the numbing agents to help reduce swelling, will affect the medication or your heart. I may require a doctor’s release.
Please advise if you are on mediation for heart problems, suffer from diabetes or are taking blood thinners or any other medical issues.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding I cannot perform the procedure
If you are breast-feeding your hormones get a little crazy. Same if you were on prednisone or any other steroids. There is a possibility that the pigment that we use will be more of a cool town than normal because of the steroids or hormones kind of change the chemistry of the body.

NOTE: The outcome of permanent cosmetic procedures is dictated by the canvas (your skin). The better condition your skin is in, the better the final result will be. Very oily, dry, or sun damaged skin can be very difficult to achieve a beautiful even result. Mature clients may need an additional one to two weeks healing for the final results to appear… Keep in mind that in many cases, some unevenness of colour is to be expected. The purpose of the touch-up visit is to correct any colour or shape issues. Please review the following directions and refer to them as necessary.
OUTER healing completes in about 3-6 days for Eyeliner, and 7-10 days for Eyebrows and Lips. INNER healing completes in 1-2 months. FINAL healed result is at about 2 months. A Touch-Up is suggested NOT to be done any sooner than 6-12 weeks after the first procedure. Performing a Touch-Up too early could cause some scarring. Some colours (especially Eyebrow colours) take longer to settle in and to see the final result.
 Ice packs protected with a cloth may be applied as necessary to reduce swelling. Sleeping slightly elevated helps alleviate swelling sometimes seen in the morning after facial procedures. Do not use ice packs on lip procedures.
 Only touch the area with clean hands. Cotton-tipped applicators may be used to gently cleanse the eye area. Wearing glasses outdoors is a good way to protect new eyeliner from dust and sun.
 Some itching is normal. DO NOT PICK, PEEL, OR SCRATCH the treated area or your colour may heal unevenly and you risk scarring and infection, apply ointment to itchy area.
 No makeup is to be applied for 72 hours (three days) after the procedure on the tattoo area. After any eyeliner procedure, use brand new mascara for the first 10 days after the 3 days of no makeup to avoid bacterial contamination. Do not use an eyelash curler for two weeks.
 Do not expose your healing skin to direct shower spray, skin creams, ointments, or lotions other than what you have been instructed to use for at least 3 days following your procedure.
 Use a good sunscreen daily- even lips require protection. Sun exposure will fade your permanent cosmetics and cause irritation.
 If you are planning chemical exfoliation, or other medical procedure, please inform your physician of your permanent makeup.

For eyebrows:
NO water, cleansers, creams, make-up or any other products on treated area for 10 days other than what is given to you by the technician.
Avoid long, hot showers for the first 10 days.
Don’t rub, pick or scratch the treated area. Let any scabbing or dry skin naturally exfoliate off. Picking can cause scarring. Do not peel or pick at fresh healing crust, this could cause massive pigment loss, scarring, and delayed healing, do not cleanse with salt water or abrasive cleansers.
Avoid direct sun exposure or tanning for 3-4 weeks after procedure, always wear a good sunscreen one healed to prevent irritation and fading. Wear a hat when outdoors.
Avoid heavy sweating for the first 10 days as the moisture and salt can leech the pigment from the affected area.
Do not apply topical cosmetics over area while healing as there can be bacterial contamination and risk of infection.
Avoid sleeping on your directly on treated area for the first 10 days as the sabs can be pulled off. Use a fresh pillowcase while you sleep.
No facials, Botox, chemical treatments or microdermabrasion for 4 weeks.
Apply ointment 2-3 times per day; do not over-apply as area needs to be allowed to breathe. PLEASE NOTE: Eyebrows will appear darker and sharper due to natural scabbing for the first week. This is very common for all permanent cosmetic procedures
For eyeliner:
NO water, cleansers, creams, make-up or any other products on treated area for 10 days.
DO NOT rub, pick or scratch the treated area. Let any scabbing or pigment exfoliate off. Picking can cause scarring.
Do not use mascara until outer healing is complete (3-5 days) to avoid bacterial contamination.
Apply given ointment 2-3 times per day with a cotton ear bud if ointment is supplied.
Avoid touching area with fingers.
Eyes may be swollen use an ice bag to relieve the swelling if needed or drinking an Antihistamine, Tylenol or myprodol will considerably reduce swelling.
Eyes may feel dry or irritated, eye drops may be used.
PLEASE NOTE: Eyeliner will appear darker and bolder due to natural scabbing and surface pigment, allow area to naturally exfoliate-do not pick. Within 3-5 days’ the eyeliner will be finer and lighter once the surface skin and pigment has sloughed off.
For lips:
NO water, cleansers, creams, makeup or any other products on treated area for 10 days besides what has been provided by the technician.
Please avoid direct contact with toothpaste and mouthwash as it contains bleaching agents and may irritate the skin.
Lips may be swollen, DO NOT USE AN ICE PACK.
Eat carefully and drink through a straw for first 24 hours if possible.
Do not apply topical cosmetics over area while healing and don’t touch the area with fingers.
For the next 3 days blot the area lightly if fluid occurs.
Continue prescribed anti-viral treatment for 5 days if you are prone to fever blisters (herpes simplex).
During healing process, 5-7 days apply ointment with a cotton ear bud when dry.
When scabbing occurs allow to slough off naturally, do not pick or pull as it will influence colour retention.
PLEASE NOTE: Lip Liner and Full Lips will appear darker and bolder due to bruising under the skin, allow area to naturally exfoliate. Colour will fade up to 60% to 80% depending on skin type, within 2 weeks. The final results will only be visible after 2 months.
Please note! IT IS THE SOLE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CLIENT TO TAKE EXTRA CARE TO AVOID INFECTION. (If symptoms of infection occur consult your Doctor immediately.)
